Project JOURNO ESKWELA: A Two-Week Virtual Exchange Program on Journalism Concludes with Resounding Success

Batangas State University – The National Engineering University (BatStateU) successfully concluded Project JOURNO ESKWELA, a two-week short-term virtual exchange program held from May 6 to 19, 2025, that brought together students and mentors from the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam for a transformative cross-cultural learning experience on the fundamentals and specializations of journalism.
The program was spearheaded by BatStateU’s External Affairs Office, in partnership with Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, Institut Pertanian Bogor (IPB) University, and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. The initiative aimed to empower future storytellers by equipping them with essential skills in journalism through lectures, interactive discussions, and collaborative outputs.
Divided into four comprehensive learning sessions, the participants explored:
• Session I – Introduction to Journalism
• Session II – Journalism Fundamentals
• Session III – Specialized Journalism (with focus on Science & Technology Writing and Data-driven Journalism)
• Session IV – Visual Journalism (Photojournalism and Desktop Publishing)
Each session featured industry professionals, faculty experts, and media practitioners who provided real-world insights and practical knowledge. The interactive format allowed students from different countries to engage in asynchronous and synchronous collaborations, culminating in the production of collaborative digital newsletters, which were presented during the Final Showcase on May 19.
In her message, Dr. Vaberlie P. Mandane-Garcia, Vice President for Development and External Affairs of BatStateU, highlighted the program as “a true celebration of international collaboration, journalistic excellence, and youth empowerment.” She also expressed gratitude to the partner institutions, faculty mentors, and students for making the virtual exchange a meaningful experience.
Certificates of Participation were awarded to students who actively took part in all sessions, while Certificates of Appreciation were given to speakers, judges, and mentors who guided the participants throughout the program.
The Final Showcase served as a fitting conclusion, not only honoring the students’ efforts but also reaffirming the role of journalism in bridging cultures and building a more informed and empathetic global community.
Project JOURNO ESKWELA stands as a testament to BatStateU’s commitment to internationalization, digital education, and the nurturing of globally aware communicators ready to tell stories that matter.
